Female twins Maeron and Frehiwot / Meron and Ferehiwot were born in Tigray in 1998. They were given for adoption as babies in 1999 due to poverty. The came from Alamata town and were first placed with the Labour and Social Affairs Bureau there. Next, they were moved to the Missionaries of Charity in Alamata before being transferred to Missionaries of Charity in Addis Ababa. The adoption was processed by the organization Les Enfants de la Reine de Miséricorde and the girls were adopted to France.
