Adoptive Parent Searching for Ethiopian Family of boy Tamrat Zewdie. He was born around 1995 and entered orphanage in 1998. He’s age is uncertain and he may have been as old at 7-8 years at adopting in 2000. He was adopted to the USA through Americans for African Adoptions via Kebebe Tsehai in 2000.  His paperwork states he was abandoned however the Ethiopian rep of the adoption agency later stated he was placed in the orphanage by his father following the death of his mother.

Give information about child’s Ethiopian family, if known. At first the adoptive family was told that Tamrat was found abandoned. However Sister Matagbosh Asmare, agency rep in Ethiopia, later told them that Tamrat’s father had relinquished him after his mother’s death.

Additional information Tamrat is about 5’5” He is thin, naturally muscular, agile, and athletic. His hair is thick and wavy/and soft. He has smaller eyes and small features with a very big beautiful smile.

Details of child(ren)’s abandonment We were told that he was found starving in a trash dump in Addis Ababa. We now believe this was not true. Sister Mantagbosh years later said that he was placed in the orphanage by his father after his Mother died.

Additional information regarding adoption agency and/or country of adoption During the time frame we adopted our children from Ethiopia through this Agency many children were placed with families who had been told fabricated stories about whether the children had living parents. Several of the older adoptees have found the truth and their families, or found partial truth and are still trying to find them.
